The Dockland Stadium (Etihad Stadium) is a multi-purpose facility designed to cater for major sporting and entertainment events as well as social, business and private functions.
Alfasi was engaged by Baulderstone Hornibrook as a specialist steel contractor to project manage, shop draw, supply and erect over 5,000 ton of steel for the entire stadium. This included the bowl steelwork, fixed roof elements and the world’s largest retractable roof of its type.
The retractable roof element was assembled on the ground, lifted up using temporary towers and jacks and then winched across the fixed roof rail tracks.
Alfasi received the 2000 AISC Steel Construction Award.
